BLONDIES

INGREDIENTS
Makes 24 bars
2 cups dark brown sugar 2/3 cup butter 2 large eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

ftttffffttttfttttfttPREPARATION 1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Oil a 9- by 13-inch glass baking pan.
2. In a medium saucepan over medi- um heat, stir together the sugar and butter with a wooden spoon until the butter has completely melted and the mixture is smooth, about 2 minutes. Cool slightly.
3. Stir in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well with the wooden spoon in between additions. Stir in the va- nilla, then the flour, baking powder and baking soda.
4. Pour batter into the pan, spreading it evenly into the corners. Sprinkle the chocolate chips on top. Bake un- til the top is set, 24 to 26 minutes. Cool slightly, then cut into bars. Serve warm.
