APPLE “CHRISPY”
HALEY FAMILY, PEMBROKE, MA
INGREDIENTS Serves 6 to 8
4 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples 1/4 cup orange juice 1 cup granulated sugar 3/4 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg Pinch of salt 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter

ffftttffttfttttPREPARATION 1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Have a 9-inch pie plate and a rimmed bak- ing sheet ready.
2. Mound the apples in the pie plate and drizzle with orange juice.
3. In a bowl, sift together the sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. With a pastry blender or 2 butter knives used in a scissor fashion, cut the butter until the mixture resem- bles coarse crumbs. Sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
4. Put the pie plate on the baking sheet and bake until the top is golden brown and the apple juices are bubbling, approximately 45 minutes.
