Guacamole Burger
Avocados from Mexico
INGREDIENTS PREPARATION
Serves 4
Guacamole:
2 ripe avocados from Mexi- co, halved, pitted, peeled and mashed
1 small tomato, diced
1⁄2 cup chopped fresh cilantro Juice of 1 lime
1⁄4 teaspoon salt
1 jalapeño pepper, stemmed, seeded and finely diced (op- tional)
Burgers:
2 pounds ground sirloin, formed into 4 patties
1 teaspoon steak seasoning
4 hamburger buns
8 leaves green lettuce
4 (1-ounce) slices cheddar cheese
1 small onion, thinly sliced 2 tomatoes, sliced
1. To make the guacamole,
in a medium bowl, com- bine the avocados, tomato, cilantro, lime juice, salt and jalapeño. Set aside.
2. To make the burgers, season each patty with steak sea- soning on both sides. Heat a skillet, grill pan or grill over high heat. Add the burg-
er patties and cook 4 to 5 minutes per side for me- dium-rare, or until desired doneness. When the burgers are almost done cooking, toast the buns in a toaster oven, a dry skillet or on the grill.
3. Assemble the burgers by layering the bottom half
of each bun with 2 lettuce leaves, a burger patty, a slice of cheese, onion slices and tomato slices. Top with a generous scoop of guaca- mole and cover with the top half of the bun.
