We love this recipe because when our children were small it was a great recipe to prepare the night before Christmas, and Easter, so while it cooked we could enjoy our mornings together.
INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp. maple syrup
1⁄2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup brown sugar
Loaf of sour dough bread
5 eggs
1 1⁄2 cups milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Optional: raisins, apples or cinnamon
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Simmer maple syrup, butter/margarine, and brown sugar until it forms a syrup.
2. Pour into a 9 x 13 ovenproof pan.
3. Cover with bite-size chunks of sour dough bread.
4. Mix eggs, milk, and vanilla. Pour mixture over bread.
5. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake the casserole.
6. Preheat oven to 350˚ F. While oven is preheating, remove casserole from refrigerator and discard plastic wrap.
7. Place casserole in heated oven and bake 30-45 minutes.
